Movement of Gases in Lifts

Dec 16, 2025 | Design Specification

I worked closely with Kadans Science Partners to come up with a design specification document that can be applied to any multi-floor laboratory or life sciences building that has a need to occasionally transport compressed or cryogenic gases in lifts.

Kadans operates as an international leader in science and innovation-focused real estate, with a presence across the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, France, and Spain. I’m very proud to add them as a new customer and be contributing to their projects from the very beginning.

Kadans were repeatedly asking and being asked the same questions about gases in lifts and were seeking some definitive expert guidance on how to do this safely both operationally and from an engineering perspective. And the industry codes and standards didn’t really offer much in the way of help on this subject.

Using my own experience and some input from a leading gas detection equipment and installation company I was able to put together a robust and detailed design document that Kadans can now apply to any multi-floor laboratory building.
